Figurilla de mono tallado
El mono araña (Ateles geofroyyi) es un activo y ágil habitante de las selvas tropicales del área maya. Conocido como maax, resulta fácil identificarlo por su estilizada figura y su larga cola prensil, los monos tenían una bien ganada reputación por su carácter transgresor y travieso; por lo general, eran representados en actitudes dinámicas, bailando o comiendo frutas y mazorcas de cacao.
